Tata’s Dholera fab crosses halfway and gets its SEZ. Suppliers are being signed now.

Tata Electronics’ semiconductor fab at Dholera, India’s first, passed the halfway mark in April 2026. Foundation work is finished and the project has moved into cleanroom installation, equipment integration and process calibration. On 9 April 2026 the central government notified a Special Economic Zone for the campus. Trial production is targeted for December 2026, and industry trackers expect commercial output around mid-2028.

What a fab pulls in

A semiconductor plant is the anchor tenant of an ecosystem: specialty gases and chemicals, ultra-pure water treatment, cleanroom consumables, precision machining, packaging, test and maintenance contractors, logistics. Most of those firms need two to ten acres, a workforce that can live nearby, and a road to the fab gate. Inside the SIR that land is bulk and zoned; outside it, the nearest working city on the same highway is Bhavnagar.

Ocean Industrial Park is 46 km from the SIR activation area by NH 751, and 13 km from Bhavnagar. For a supplier, that is the distance between a plant and a bedroom.

In July 2026 the state’s Data Centre Policy 2026–29 named Dholera as its primary hub, with officials citing 7 to 8 gigawatts of potential capacity. The airport at Navagam is about 80% built, with runway and tower complete, and targets a December 2026 opening.
